Lexington, Ky. - The Transylvania men's tennis team opened Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a 6-3 victory over the Anderson University Ravens at Top Seed Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon.
The victory improves Transylvania's record to 2-2 on the young season while the Ravens fall to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in league play.
The Pioneers took control of the match right from the start, capturing two of the three doubles matches. The team of
Nick and Noah McNamee rolled to an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles, while the duo of
Arjun Gupta and
Jon-Michael Schulte battled to an 8-4 win in the No. 2 doubles match.
In singles action, Gupta picked up his second victory of the day with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles, while Schulte cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory in the No. 4 singles matchup.
With victory in reach, the McNamee twins closed out the match in style, with Nick claiming a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles, and Noah winning his No. 3 singles match 6-3, 6-1.
The Pioneers will be back in action on Tuesday, April 13, for a non-conference bout against the Covenant College Scots. The match is set for a 3:00 p.m. start at Top Seed Tennis Club.
