Box Score Warsaw, Ind. – The Transylvania women's tennis team continued its march through conference play with a surgical 9-0 win over the Manchester University Spartans on Saturday afternoon at Eastlake Athletic Club.
Transylvania left no match in doubt to move to 6-1 overall on the season and remain perfect in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play at 4-0. Manchester dropped to 0-11 and 0-4 in the conference standings.
There was nary a blemish in doubles play as
Porsche Robinson and
Jessica Burton won 8-0 at No. 1 doubles,
Alyssa Igyarto and
Grace Gardner captured an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles, and
Erin Biddle and
Christina Duvall cruised to an 8-0 win in No. 3 doubles.
The Pioneers were as dominant in singles play as all six wins by Transylvania occurred in straight sets. Robinson corralled a 6-2, 6-1 win in No. 1 singles while Burton won all 12 games in No. 2 singles. The rest of the Pioneers matched Burton's excellence, all duplicating 6-0 wins across the board. Gardner completed her sweep at No. 3 singles, while Igyarto was perfect in the No. 4 slot. Duvall also won 6-0, 6-0 in No. 5 singles, while
Shania Jones reeled off 12 straight games as well.
After beginning their weekend road trip in blistering fashion, the Pioneers will continue on to Hanover College tomorrow for their final match of regular season play. The HCAC dual match between Transylvania and Hanover is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at Zeddies Tennis Center.
