Hanover, Ind. – The Transylvania women's tennis team capped off the regular season with an 8-1 victory over the Hanover College Panthers at Zeddies Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
With the victory, the Pioneers wrap up a perfect 5-0 mark in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play while the Panthers fall to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
Porsche Robinson and Jessica Burton opened the day with a demonstrative 8-0 victory in the No. 1 doubles matchup. The duo of Alyssa Igyarto and Grace Gardner kept things rolling with an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles. Transylvania wrapped up the sweep with an 8-6 win via Christina Duvall and Erin Biddle at No. 3 doubles.
The Pioneers' dominance continued into singles play, where Gardner kicked off the slate with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 3 singles matchup. Robinson clinched the Transylvania victory with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1 Singles.
Burton and Igyarto picked up victories at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, and the final win of the day for Transylvania came via Duvall, who prevailed 7-5, 6-4 in the No. 5 singles match.
"It feels especially good to finish our conference schedule this year," remarked Transylvania head coach Bill Carey. "With all the challenges presented, just to get through the season feels like a success. Not only did they do that, but they went undefeated! They have been amazingly flexible and resilient and a joy to be around."
The Pioneers will now look ahead to the HCAC Tournament, which begins on Friday, May 7 at Transylvania's home venue, Top Seed Tennis Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
