Hanover, Ind. –
Andrew Hamill scored four goals as the Transylvania men's lacrosse team captured a 17-5 victory over the Hanover College Panthers at Alumni Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
The win propels the Pioneers' record to 9-3 overall and 3-0 in Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference play while the Panthers fall to 6-4 and 3-1 in league play. Transylvania now holds sole possession of first place in the HCLC standings with just one game remaining in the regular season.
In addition to Hamill, the Pioneers were led on offense by
Kayd Aquino and
Trenton Sneed, who each recorded hat-tricks in the Transylvania victory.
After a nearly two-hour lightning delay, Transylvania opened the game on fire offensively as four different Pioneers combined to score seven goals in the first quarter.
The Pioneers continued to share the ball in the second quarter as Aquino, Hamill, Sneed, and
Corbyn Buchart each scored goals to extend the Transylvania lead out to 10 goals. The Panthers scored two late goals to cut the Transylvania lead to 11-3 at the halftime break.
In the third quarter, Transylvania's offense continued to dominate the Hanover defense as five different Pioneers recorded goals, pushing the lead out to 16-3.
Despite a two-goal rally by the Panthers to open the first quarter, the Pioneers capped off the 17-5 victory with a goal from
Quinn Fox in the waning moments of the game.
Defensively,
T.J. Toivonen anchored the Transylvania backline and scored a pair of goals to go with six ground balls.
Michael Webb picked up the win in goal for the Pioneers as the senior tallied 10 saves and seven ground balls in the victory.
The Pioneers will be back in action on Saturday, May 1, when they wrap up regular season play with a matchup against the Anderson University Ravens in their Senior Day game. Opening face-off between the Pioneers and the Ravens is set for 5:00 p.m. at Pat Deacon Stadium.
