Box Score Nicholasville, Ky. – The Transylvania women's tennis team served up conference play on Saturday afternoon with a resounding 9-0 victory over the Franklin College Grizzlies at Top Seed Tennis Club.
Entering the 2021-22 season as the two-time reigning Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament champions, the Pioneers displayed their familiar dominance in their first dual match of the season by taking it to the Grizzlies at home.
Transylvania turned in six definitive victories in singles play and was flawless in doubles, capturing all three tandem affairs by identical scores of 8-0.
Porsche Robinson and Jessica Burton led off the fearsome day by the Pios with a one-sided win at No. 1 doubles, and Grace Gardner and Katherine Taylor turned in an identical result at No. 2 doubles. Alyssa Igyarto and Christina Duvall rolled on to victory at the No. 3 doubles slot, giving the Pioneers a steady 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
Robinson was victorious in No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-0 over Emma Foley while Burton sewed up a straight-set win over Sydney Logsdon in the No. 2 matchup. Gardner won 6-1, 6-2 over Maddie Bright at No. 3 singles and Katherine Taylor finished strong in No. 4 singles, winning 6-3, 6-0 over Maecee Terhune.
Alyssa Igyarto won No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-2, and Duvall rounded out a perfect 9-0 day with a 6-3, 6-3 win in No. 6 singles.
The Pioneers look ahead to a nonconference match against Centre College on Wednesday, September 15 at Top Seed Tennis Club. The two Central Kentucky rivals clash at 5:00 p.m.
