Box Score Nicholasville, Ky. – The Transylvania women's tennis team endured its first loss of the season in a clash with a Central Kentucky rival on Wednesday in a 6-3 setback to the Centre College Colonels at Top Seed Tennis Club.
The Pioneers dropped to 1-1 on the year in dual matches while Centre picked up its first win of the season.
"Wednesday was a tough match, but it provided a lot to build off of and I'm very impressed with the fight and the effort from our team," chimed Transylvania head coach Bill Carey.
The Colonels earned the upper hand by taking two of three doubles matches to begin the evening bout. Porsche Robinson and Jessica Burton were edged by Ella Rueff and Hannah Doherty, 8-5 in the No. 1 doubles matchup. Grace Gardner and Katherine Taylor captured a thrilling win in No. 2 doubles with a 8-6 victory over the Colonels' duo. Alyssa Igyarto and Christina Duvall were outserved, 8-3 by Maddy Trinh and Lainey Hill at No. 3 doubles to hand the Colonels a 2-1 advantage.
The Colonels secured the win by capturing victories across No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, and No. 6 singles on Wednesday. Gardner delivered a convincing win at No. 4 singles, winning 6-2, 6-3 against Caroline Lancaster while Taylor matched her doubles partner with a pair of wins, winning 6-3, 6-2 against Trinh in No. 5 singles.
The Pioneers will aim to bounce back on Sunday, September 19 at home against the Anderson University Ravens. Opening serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Top Seed.
