Transylvania women’s tennis completes season-opening tune up against Asbury, Millikin, and Wooster

Nicholasville, Ky. – The Transylvania women's tennis team capped off the first weekend of its 2021-22 regular season with another populous day of tournament action in the Transylvania Fall Invite at Top Seed Tennis Club.

The Pioneers jostled with individuals from Wooster, Millikin, and Asbury over the weekend, culminating with the four teams squaring off for two combined sessions of singles matches and four sessions of doubles matches.

The Pioneers faced off with Wooster in their singles action Sunday and emerged victorious, seizing five of seven matches. Porsche Robinson delivered a solid win in No. 1 singles, beating Otilia Oita, 6-4, 6-2, while Grace Gardner and Katherine Taylor each claimed victories at No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Alyssa Igyarto squeezed out a hard-fought second set to sweep Emma Saxton, 6-3, 7-5 in the No. 5 slot, while Claire Roland earned a win in the No. 7 singles quadrant against Becky Larue with a 6-4, 6-1 win.

Robinson and Jessica Burton teamed up to go 1-1 in doubles later on in the day, falling 8-2 to the duo of Paige Willer and Emily Markus of Millikin before rebounding with an 8-6 win against Asbury's tandem of Alexandra Lerma and Isabella Gutierrez. The Pioneers rounded out their weekend by taking three of four doubles matches against their central Kentucky neighbors from Wilmore. Gardner and Taylor enjoyed banner days as each player went 3-0 between winning their singles matches and teaming up together to win two doubles matches. 

Transylvania now looks ahead to its regular season as the Pioneers begin conference play on Saturday, September 11 against the Franklin College Grizzlies at Top Seed Tennis Club. The first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match observes opening serve at 11:00 a.m.
