Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania swimming and diving team ignited the second half of its season over the weekend, hosting the Centre College Colonels on Friday evening at the William T. Young Center and its conference rival, the Anderson University Ravens on Saturday afternoon.
Delaney McPherson, Olivia Greinke, and Mackie Redford made waves for the Pioneers to begin the weekend as each tallied a pair of wins for the Pioneers. McPherson displayed her endurance with a win in the women's 1000 freestyle, touching the wall in 11:34.88, and collaborated with Greinke, Logan Thomas, and Mary Grace Thompson for an evening-opening win in the women's 200 medley relay (1:55.53).
Greinke carved her way to victory in the women's 100 breaststroke, taking an over two-second victory in a 1:12.04 showing.
Redford owned the night on the boards, tallying 254.50 points in the women's 1-meter dive, and 246.40 points in the women's 3-meter dive.
Centre used its depth to claim a 294-163 combined win, and held off the Transylvania women's team 134-89 in a Central Kentucky clash.
Transylvania turned around on Saturday and delivered a poignant performance against Anderson with the Pioneer women's swimming and diving team winning 134-87 over the Ravens. With Anderson not being able to fufill the minimum amount of men's swimmers, the men's matchup was officially certified as an exhibition matchup.
McPherson and Greinke each won three races apiece on Saturday to push the Pioneers to the winning effort.
McPherson and Greinke each teamed up in the women's 400 medley relay along with Thomas and Thompson to win in 4:20.99. McPherson once again outlasted the field in the women's 1000 freestyle (11:42.98) for a first-place showing and took first in the women's 500 freestyle (5:40.99).
Greinke delivered more wins in the women's 200 individual medley (2:25.52) and in the women's 200 breaststroke (2:45.84).
Hannah Tapp had a solid Saturday with a pair of victories, sprinting to a 56.99 second win in the women's 100 freestyle and in the women's 200 freestyle (2:10.51). Tapp was also part of a crew which took second in the women's 400 freestyle relay (3:58.73).
Thomas Pearson displayed his agility and creativity for the Pioneers in men's diving on Saturday, placing first in the men's 1-meter dive with a 125.03 score and in the men's 3-meter dive with 129 points.
Transylvania completes its regular season schedule next Saturday, January 29 at home against the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Fightin' Engineers. The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference dual meet is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
