Transylvania swim and dive finishes regular season with combined win over Rose-Hulman

Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania swimming and diving team celebrated Senior Day 2022 with its regular season finale against the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Fightin' Engineers on Saturday afternoon at the William T. Young Center, tallying a 300-267 combined team win.

The Transylvania women's swimming and diving team furnished a variety of wins for a 190-87 win over the Engineers while the Rose-Hulman men's team claimed a 180-110 win over the Transylvania men's side. The senior day ceremony served as the final tune-up for the Pioneers prior to the conference championships, hosted by Rose-Hulman in Terre Haute.

The day was christened with senior day festivities celebrating the careers of Devon Parker, Sophie Cobler, and Ashleigh Richardson prior to the action.

When the teams hit the pool for their final regular season dual, it was Olivia Greinke who led the way for the Pioneers with three individual wins and another first-place finish in the women's 200 medley relay race, teaming with Delaney McPherson, Sami Monarch, and Mary Grace Thompson in the event.

Greinke also took first place finishes in the women's 100 breaststroke (1:12.41), the 200 breaststroke (2:44.52), and the women's 200 individual medley (2:26.44).

Monarch also powered her way to four wins including the 200 medley relay, touching the wall first in the women's 100 backstroke (1:03.13), the women's 100 freestyle (55.34 s), and winning another relay, the women's 200 freestyle (1:43.00). Monarch collaborated with Logan Thomas, Hannah Tapp, and Thompson to clinch victory.

Thompson also captured an individual win in the women's 50 freestyle (25.65 s) to cap off a strong finish in her first regular season.

McPherson followed suit with wins in the women's 200 freestyle (2:06.97) and the 500 freestyle (5:39.91).

Grayson Bray had a standout day with a first-place finish in the women's 200 butterfly (1:05.64) and in the women's 200 butterfly (2:33.58).

Mackie Redford once again led the charge in diving, claiming victories in the women's 1-meter dive (260.05 points) and the women's 3-meter dive (271.50 points).

JJ Holmes had a breakout performance on Saturday for the Transylvania men's side, winning four races in total. Holmes dominated with wins in the men's 100 breaststroke (58.98 s), men's 50 freestyle (21.74 s), and the men's 100 freestyle (47.14 s).    

The quartet of Connor Hood, Parker, Holmes, and Jacob Young captured victory in the men's 200 medley relay (1:39.92) to cap off a strong day for the Pioneers. Hood added a second win in the men's 200 backstroke, winning by over two seconds in a time of 2:01.98.

Transylvania will look ahead to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships scheduled for February 10-12, 2022 in Terre Haute, Indiana. The three-day championship session will be held at Vigo County Aquatic Center.
