Calhoun notches career 250th win, Transylvania men’s tennis starts spring with win over Otterbein

Nicholasville, Ky. – The Transylvania men's tennis team began its 2022 season with a sterling start, gaining a 6-3 match win over the Otterbein University Cardinals on Friday evening at Top Seed Tennis Club.

Competing in its first dual match of the season, the Pioneers unfurled their depth and excellence, using a 2-1 advantage in doubles to roll to victory against the Cardinals.

The clutch home victory marked the 250th victory of head coach Kevin Calhoun's career as the Pioneers kicked off the lion's share of their season with milestones and beginnings to celebrate.

Parker Rowton and Elijah Skaggs tallied up an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles to start the night off right, and Ty Crabtree and Nick McNamee cruised to an 8-3 win in No. 2 doubles.

McNamee was clutch for the Pioneers once again in No. 1 singles, where the veteran corralled a 7-5, 6-3 win. Jared Wells won 6-4, 6-4 in straight sets at No. 4 singles, and Crabtree fought his way to a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 6 singles. Skaggs displayed his firepower with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles.

The Pioneers aim to chisel their game next over the three-day Pioneer Invite at Top Seed Tennis Club, scheduled for Friday, February 18 through Sunday, February 20.
