Transylvania Diving sophomore Mackie Redford makes NCAA Regional

2/23/2022 4:20:00 PM

Lexington, Ky. - Swimming and Diving sophomore Mackie Redford is moving on to NCAA Regionals this weekend. Redford, a three time HCAC Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week winner, looks to cap off another highly impressive season full of accolades. Earlier this month, Redford brought home the 2022 HCAC Championship in the women's 3-meter dive. This title makes her the back-to-back champion, as she also won as a first year diver in 2021.

Redford, who hails from Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic, set the Transylvania school record of 435.25 points to win the HCAC title and move on to the NCAA regional round in San Antonio, Tx. for a chance to compete in the NCAA Championship. The sophomore also added a third-place performance at the HCAC championships in the women's 1-meter dive with a final total of 394.35 points.

In 2021 Redford was named an All-American in 3-meter and 1-meter diving as a first year student-athlete. She competed in last year's NCAA Regionals, which was not done in person. Last season, adjustments were made to the All-American selection procedure. Video of the dives was to be sent in, and would be evaluated remotely. However this year Redford finally has the opportunity to travel to San Antonio to do it all in person, in live time.

"She represents Transylvania in an unbelievable way as a student athlete," Swimming and Diving head coach Dave Doolin said about Redford. "We're all hoping this is another year where she can compete at nationals. We're really proud of her and are excited about getting an opportunity to travel to San Antonio!"
