Berea, Oh. – The Transylvania men's lacrosse team reeled off an incredible last second comeback, but ultimately fell in overtime to the Baldwin Wallace University Yellow Jackets by a final score of 13-12.
The Pioneers were held off the scoreboard for the first quarter, as Baldwin Wallace built up a 4-goal lead. Three minutes into the second, they scored again, to go ahead 5-0. Transylvania responded as
Andrew Hamill took a feed from
Kayd Aquino and finished to finally put the Pioneers on the board.
Bryce Lowe scored to make it a 5-2 game, but the Yellow Jackets found three straight tallies in less than three minutes, to go ahead with a commanding six goal lead. With just 17 seconds left in the half,
Dalton Hubbs notched one to make it an 8-3 halftime score.
Baldwin Wallace found the first goal of the second half, but just two minutes later Lowe found the back of the net again. The Yellow Jackets quickly found two more, to go ahead 11-4, and seemed to be in full control. However, goals from
Tai Stormont and Aquino gave the Pios life going into the fourth, down 11-6.
Five minutes into the fourth, Hubbs scored again as Transy continued to fight. Baldwin Wallace answered exactly one minute later, to go ahead 12-7 with less than ten minutes to go. The Pioneers continued to knock on the door but they found themselves still down by 5 goals, with under five minutes to go. Lowe buried one at the 04:17 mark and unleased an incredible comeback.
Hamill's second goal of the night came at 02:45, but even then Transy still had a long way to go. They found themselves down by three as the clock hit 1:00, but never gave up.
Will Warner scored at the 0:42 mark, and just nine seconds later Hamill found another for the hat trick. With just five seconds left,
Bryce Lowe scored his fourth of the night and the unforgettable five goal comeback was complete.
Unfortunately for the Pioneers, Baldwin Wallace found the back of the net in overtime to take the win. However, the Pioneers' unforgettable comeback leaves a major positive on the day. Down by five goals with less than five minutes left, and down by three with less than a minute on the clock, the comeback feat shows the team's impressive persistence.
The Pioneers return home and look to carry the momentum from the comeback into next Saturday, March 26, when they host Illinois Wesleyan at Pat Deacon Stadium with a 2:00 PM scheduled start.
