Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Transylvania women's lacrosse fall to Allegheny College at home

Lexington, Ky. - On Wednesday night, the Transylvania University women's lacrosse team took on the Allegheny College Gators out of Meadville, Pennsylvania. This is the ninth match of the seasons for the Pioneers, marking the midway point of the season for the team.

Allegheny, undefeated going into Wednesday's contest, would be another tough test for the Pioneers. The Gators were first to get on the board, with a goal coming at the 11:33 mark of the first quarter. The game went scoreless for the next six and a half minutes but the Pioneers found their answer with a goal from first-year midfielder Diana Bruder. Shortly after the Pios were able to take the lead after another goal, this time from junior attacker and reigning HCAC offensive player of the week Abbey Peterson

Going into the second quarter the Pioneers led 2-1, but soon after play was started the Gators found their game tying goal. The Pioneers quickly answered just over a minute later with a goal from junior midfielder Mandi Rider to take the lead by one, but before you could even look away, the Gators came back to tie it again at 3-3. The Pioneers did not wait long to take the lead once again with Rider scoring her second of the game, specifically quarter, to take a one goal lead. Before the end of the quarter, Allegheny was able to find the back of the net twice, to take a one goal lead going into halftime.

Coming out of the halftime break the Pioneers were quick to find a score, just nine seconds into the quarter. The goal came from junior attacker Vianne Koshoffer, tying the score at 5-5. From there, the Gators ended up scoring four unanswered goals to end the quarter, Pios down 9-5.

To begin the final period, Transylvania's Bruder scored her second goal of the game within the first 30 seconds to lessen the Allegheny lead. Unfortunately the Gators scored five more before the Pios could answer again. The Pioneers eventually did reply with a goal of their own, coming off a free-position shot by Peterson for her second of the game. Quickly after the Pios found another goal, this time by senior attacker Lindy Walker to make the score 14-8. Allegheny College went on to score one more goal as the Pioneers went scoreless to close it out with a final of 15-8.

The Pioneers look to bounce back in an exhibition this Saturday at Asbury University, before taking on Ohio Wesleyan in Delaware, Ohio on April 2. The Pioneers will return home, after a four game road trip, April 16 against Anderson University.
