Transylvania baseball lose two weekend games at Denison

Granville, Oh. – The Transylvania baseball team took on the Denison University Big Red on Friday and Saturday, with Sunday's game being cancelled due to weather. The Pioneers were defeated in both games, with an 11-1 final on Friday night and a 6-1 final score on Saturday afternoon.

On Friday, the Pioneers had early baserunners after singles from Austin Taylor and Trent Youngblood, as well as a walk from Walter Munday, but Denison escaped with the score still at 0-0. The Big Red then scored two in the top of the first, and three more in the third, to take early control. They added to the lead, going up 8-0 by the fifth inning, while the Pioneers tried to break through on the night. TJ Keck singled and ended up scoring Trent Pahl after an error, but the Big Red limited the damage there and added three more runs in the seventh, to take the game 11-1 in seven innings.

On Saturday, Transylvania once again got multiple baserunners in the bottom of the first. Much like the night before, another infield single from Taylor got things started, and Youngblood walked. Munday came through with a single to center, scoring one, however the Big Red got out of the inning from there. Connor Arnold retired the side in both the bottom of the first and second innings with two strikeouts, but Denison broke through in the third and scored two, despite Transy not allowing any extra base hits. The Pioneers, down 2-1, had at least a hit in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings but were unable to cash in. Arnold continued to pitch strong on the mount keeping it a one run game, but a seventh inning homer from the Big Red, and three more runs in the eighth, gave them the afternoon win by a final score of 6-1.

The Pioneers return home and take on the Centre College Colonels on Wednesday, March 30 with a 7:00 PM scheduled start, at Earle Combs Stadium in Richmond, Kentucky. They then open conference play with an April 2 doubleheader at Defiance College in Defiance, Ohio.
