Lexington, Ky. - On Saturday afternoon, the Transylvania men's lacrosse team took on fellow CCIW opponent, the Carthage College Firebirds. It was senior day for the Transylvania Pioneers as they were playing in their final home appearance of the 2022 season.
On Saturday afternoon the careers of seniors Tristan Ach, Noah Alexander, Kayd Aquino, Peyton Bray, Connor Haney, and Bryce Lowe were recognized. Also receiving recognition were three seniors who are returning for a fifth year next season; Evan Deskins, Quinn Fox, and AJ Teague. These nine student-athletes have each had their own significant impact on the Transylvania men's lacrosse program, and the university has been fortunate to have them as a part of the community.
As the game took off, both teams played a stellar first 10 minutes of defense. Neither team allowed much, as shots were hard to come by and goals were not being converted. Eventually, at the five minute mark in the first period, Carthage struck first. Transylvania's own AJ Teague then came up with a huge response just 13 seconds later off of an assist from fellow senior Bryce Lowe. After two more goals from Carthage in the period, Transylvania found a last second tally from Quinn Fox, assisted by Andrew Hamill, to make it a one goal game going into the second period.
The second quarter started with a strike by Hamill, assisted by Aquino, at the 14:02 mark to tie the game. Unfortunately, Carthage was able to find three goals before the end of the half to go up 6-3 heading into the break.
The third period was filled with tough defense by both teams, as they left it all out on the turf for the final 30 minutes of the game. Transylvania allowed one goal in the third and two in the fourth, but made a valiant comeback effort in the final minutes of the fourth period. Hamill netted a hat trick for the match, with his final two goals coming within a minute of each other in the fourth. Bryce Lowe was then able to find one more goal with under two minutes remaining. While the Pioneers fought hard, Carthage held their lead and took the win by a final score of 9-6. A massive milestone was accomplished by senior Peyton Bray on Saturday, as he gathered four ground balls to overtake the all-time ground ball record at Transylvania with 298 and counting. Congrats Peyton Bray!
The Pioneers men's lacrosse team is back in action on Friday, April 29th at North Central before they close out their regular season on the 30th against Augustana College.
