Lexington, Ky. - The Transylvania women's lacrosse team grabbed another resounding conference win, this time matched against the Franklin College Grizzlies on Senior Day at Pat Deacon Stadium on Saturday afternoon, where they came away with a 21-2 win.
After taking time to recognize and celebrate the careers of seniors Lindy Walker and Madie Denman, the Pioneers got right down to business looking to grab another conference win. Just under three minutes into the game Abbey Peterson scored, and less than sixty seconds later Charlotte Green put one home as Transylvania established control. Another goal from Peterson, and one from Vianne Koshoffer, had the Pios up 4-0 in the first five minutes.
The Grizzlies got on the board at the 9:08 mark, but from there Transylvania went on a rampage with 17 unanswered goals, starting with a tally from the senior attacker Walker. In the dominant stretch of play, 9 different Pioneers went on the scoresheet including three from Peterson to make it a four goal game for the dynamic junior attacker. Sophia Sparks, Diana Bruder, Lindy Walker, as well as Koshoffer and Green all notched two goals in the run. Linley Dawson, Lula Thompson, and Mandi Rider tacked on goals themselves to add to the lead, which was 21-1 in favor of Transylvania late in the contest.
With Transy holding a sizable lead, 20 total Pioneers took to the field throughout the contest including several first-year athletes, proving to be a sign of what to come on the Senior Day afternoon. Early in the fourth quarter, first-year Lula Thompson scored her first career goal, on her first shot nonetheless. Fellow first-year Tanya Barbee grabbed four ground balls, setting a career high. Junior Sophia Sparks also set an impressive milestone, with her first hat trick of the season.
Goaltender Abi Waldron took the win in goal and was relieved by first-year Amara Wagner, who also stood tall between the pipes as Transylvania won the game 21-2.
The Pioneers will play their final home game of the season as they host Hanover on Wednesday, April 27th with a 7:00 PM scheduled start.
