Transylvania women's lacrosse use huge second quarter to defeat Earlham 18-2

Richmond, In. – The Transylvania women's lacrosse team improved to 4-0 in conference play with another emphatic win, this time defeating the Earlham College Quakers 18-2 in a road tilt. Three Pioneers scored hat tricks, and a second quarter explosion of 8 goals helped the team cruise on the night.

From the opening draw, Transylvania looked to establish control on both sides of the field and were able to do just that. Vianne Koshoffer opened the scoring on the evening with an unassisted tally at the 12:33 mark. Charlotte Green netted two in the next five minutes, and the Pioneers took a 3-0 lead after one quarter.

Just over two minutes into the second Diana Bruder added another, and at the 11:26 mark Macy-Hobbs Powell put one in the back of the net for her first career goal. From there, Transylvania's offense went on an impressive push, with 8 total scores in the period. Bruder, Lindy Walker and Abbey Peterson each had two. Defender Abby Rau jumped into the rush and added to the surge. At the midway point, the Pioneers held an 11-0 lead, as Abi Waldron put up a first half shutout in goal.

To start the second half, Mandi Rider took a feed from Peterson and put it home just 39 seconds into the third quarter, and less than a minute later, Peterson scored again, becoming her fourth straight game with a hat trick. Earlham got on the board at the 9:59 mark, but goals from Walker and Rider made it a 15-1 contest, giving Walker a hat trick as well.

Transylvania wasted no time to start the final quarter, as Lula Thompson's tally came just 14 seconds into the fourth. Walker scored her fourth goal of the night at the 11:51 mark, and Green struck again nearly four minutes later, to become the third Pioneer with a hat trick in the game. With the large lead, Transy was content to work the clock and play tight defense, as the game ended in an 18-2 final.

The senior attacker Walker had a game to remember, with a new career high four goals, to go along with a pair of helpers in a 6-point night. Ysa Leon led the team with 5 ground balls, and the duo of Madie Denman and Linley Dawson were a force on the defensive end with 4 caused turnovers each.

Waldron and Amara Wagner split duties in net, as Waldron took the win with 5 saves, and Wagner came up with 2 saves in her 15 minutes of action.

The Pioneers look to check off another conference win to finish off the regular season, as they take on Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati tomorrow, Saturday April 30th, with a 4:00 PM scheduled start.
