Transylvania women's tennis to open NCAA Tournament tomorrow against Piedmont

5/12/2022 7:35:00 PM

Atlanta, Ga. – At long last, after over a month since their last match, the Transylvania women's tennis team is off to Atlanta for the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships. The team will take on Piedmont University on Friday, May 13, with a 10:00 AM scheduled start. The matchup will take place at Emory University.

The Pioneers clinched their third straight HCAC title with an exhilarating 5-0 win over Anderson back in October, and since then have remained poised ahead of the big stage, as they once again qualify for the tournament.

The opening round matchup for the Pioneers and tournament bracket were both announced on Monday. The Piedmont Lady Lions are in their first NCAA Tournament in program history after winning the USA South Tournament title, going 24-4 overall on the season. The Pioneers were actually scheduled to play Piedmont back in February, however the match was canceled.

Transylvania goes into the tournament with a 15-4 overall record this season. As they claimed their conference championship back in the fall with the automatic bid to the tournament, the squad maintained their strong play this spring. Back in March the team had a series of matches in Orlando against some top competition to prepare them for the stretch ahead.

The winner of Friday's match will advance to play the host, Emory, who earned a first-round bye. The second-round contest is scheduled for Saturday, May 14, with time TBA.

Live stats as well as live video are to be provided for tomorrow's action at Emory.
