Lexington, Ky. - The Transylvania women's lacrosse team took on the Earlham College Quakers in the semifinal of the HCLC tournament. The winner of this match would move on to face the winner of Hanover College vs Mount St. Joseph University in the HCLC Championship on Saturday, May 7th.
Transylvania scored on their first possession, as Ysa Leon put one home to jump start the Pioneers as the game got started, and just 18 seconds later Charlotte Green capitalized on a free possession shot making it a 2-0 game. The Pioneers continued to push early as Leon notched another goal shortly after at the 13:44 mark, and Lindy Walker took a nice feed from Vianne Koshoffer for another goal, as Transy led 4-0 not even two minutes into the contest.Â
Linley Dawson added Transy's fifth, and after Leon grabbed another ball off the next draw, Diana Bruder scored again just twelve seconds later. Dawson scored at the 11:34 mark on another assist from Koshoffer, and the Pioneers were in full control ahead 7-0. Abbey Peterson joined the scoring barrage for the Pioneers with two goals, fighting right to the front of the net on back to back possessions and coming through each time.Â
Earlham established a possession and got on the board at the 9:37 mark, and added their second three minutes later on another quick change of possession. Green put an end to the push with Transy's 10th, and Koshoffer dropped another dime, this time for Abby Rau's first, as the Pios led by 9.Â
With just one second remaining in the first Lindy Walker put one home, and the senior added another quickly into the second. Earlham scored to make it a 13-3 game, but the Pioneers did not let up in the first half. Koshoffer put up a second quarter hat trick, and Dawson as well as Peterson completed first half hat tricks of their own. At the midway point Transylvania led 18-3.Â
Content with their lead, the Pioneers focused on working through the rest of the afternoon by protecting it. Walker and Dawson each scored their fourth goals of the day, along with two from Sophia Sparks. Mandi Rider and Tanya Barbee also worked their way to the scoring column, and Transylvania took the game by a final score of 25-4.Â
Abi Waldron earned the win in net with a four save performance, and Amara Wagner played the fourth quarter with 2 saves and no goals allowed.
It was a career day for the sophomore Dawson, who had her first career hat trick in what ended up being a four goal and one assist game.Â
At the same time of Transylvania's game in which they advanced, Hanover defeated Franklin by a score of 14-9, setting up for a final between the Pioneers and the Panthers to be played on Saturday, May 7th at Pat Deacon Stadium with a start time to be announced. The championship game will feature the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds with an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on the line. Transylvania and Hanover met earlier in the season, where the Pios picked up the win, 14-5.Â
