Nicholasville, Ky. – The Transylvania men's tennis team came up short against Rose-Hulman in the HCAC Semifinals on Saturday afternoon, played at Top Seed Tennis Club in Nicholasville. The 5-0 loss to the #1 seeded Fightin' Engineers marks the end of the 2022 season, one in which the team made an impressive push to close out the spring.
The Transylvania team went 0-3 in doubles, as the duos of Jared Wells and Jacob Cooper in the #2 spot, as well as the #1 double group of Nick McNamee and Elijah Skaggs, fell after going up against the best the top seed opponent had to offer. Hunter Gregg and Ty Crabtree made a strong push in #3 doubles but also were defeated, 8-4.
Once singles play got underway, Rose-Hulman took the first two matchups in No. 3 and No. 4 singles, and their 5-0 lead marked the end on the day. The remainder of the singles spots went unfinished, and the Fightin' Engineers advanced to the championship.
With the tough loss to the #1 team, the Transylvania team concludes their spring which was highlighted by an excellent 8-1 win over Franklin College on Wednesday in the quarterfinals. Senior Nick McNamee was also named the conference's Men's Tennis Player of the Year on Tuesday, as it was certainly a week to be proud of for the squad.
