Box Score Franklin, In. - The Transylvania men's tennis team are on to the semifinals of the HCAC Tournament after they grabbed an exceptional 8-1 win over the Franklin College Grizzlies in the opening quarterfinal round.
With the season on the line, the team rose to the occasion and delivered one of their best performances of the season. The Pioneers went 2-1 in doubles overall, as Nick McNamee and Elijah Skaggs won 8,4 and the duo of Jared Wells and Jacob Cooper matched it with an 8,4 win of their own.
In singles play Transylvania ran away with the match as they went a perfect 6-0. Everyone played exceptionally well, as the Pioneers were on fire. McNamee, Arjun Gupta, Jared Wells, and Hunter Gregg all won in straight sets, while Skaggs and Ty Crabtree prevailed in three sets in two intense matches of play.
Earlier in the season the Pioneers fell to Franklin by a score of 6-3, so today's postseason win is a testament to the team's development throughout the spring. This team has improved all year and the experience they have gained this season is coming through at the right time. The Pioneer men's tennis team advances to the semifinals for the second straight year.
Up next, the No. 5 seeded Transylvania Pioneers move on to the semifinals to take on the No. 1 seed, Rose-Hulman. The match is scheduled for Saturday, May 7th with a 1 PM scheduled start. The semifinal round of the tournament is to be played at Top Seed Tennis Club in Nicholasville, and a win would vault the Pioneers into the HCAC Championship match, scheduled for Sunday, May 8th.
