Transylvania baseball finish up their season with a doubleheader split at Anderson

Anderson, Ind. – The Transylvania baseball team won one and lost one in a pair of games played at Anderson to finish up the season. In the opener TJ Keck was raking with a pair of long balls and Robby Arnett put in a strong performance on the mound as the team won 10-2. In game number two Transy made a spirited final comeback attempt in the ninth, led by several seniors in their final game as Pioneers, but fell 4-3.

In game one, Trent Youngblood singled with two outs and then stole second, suddenly posing a threat in the top of the first. The sophomore was ready to score on any base hit, but ended up doing so on a jog as Keck blasted a homer to left center.

Youngblood continued to do damage in the top of the third with a double to score Griffin Hall, and Munday then plated him on a fielder's choice play, making it 4-0.

Arnett was in a rhythm, pitching sharp through three innings. In the bottom of the fourth the Ravens hit a leadoff double and suddenly had runners on second and third with nobody out. However, Arnett pitched right through it only allowing one, as it was 4-1 Pios.

Transylvania got more runs for their pitcher in the top of the fifth, as Caleb Bowers singled and a throwing error allowed Munday and Keck to come home. Anderson scored another in the sixth but the Pioneers still led by four. In the seventh they continued to feast as Keck hit another homer, and Braden Becker did the same with a two-run shot of his own. The Pioneers led 9-2.

A double from Austin Taylor made it 10, and Arnett went the distance with 8 strikeouts in the complete game win, and just two runs allowed, in the 10-2 victory.

In game two, Youngblood tripled with two down in the top of the first and Munday singled to plate the sophomore. Lee Watson took the start and put three zeros on the board. Broadwater singled in the fourth to score Youngblood again, but in the bottom of the inning Anderson evened things up at 2-2, and tacked on runs in the fifth and sixth to go ahead 4-2.

Transy was held off the board until the top of the ninth, when the team rallied together for a final push. Nick Wade doubled and tagged up to third base. With two outs, fellow senior Charlie Henry drove one to right center for another double, easily scoring Wade. Unfortunately, that was as close as they would come as Anderson escaped with the 4-3 win.

With another huge performance in the pair of games where he was all over the stat sheet, sophomore Trent Youngblood set the new All-Time Transylvania record for most total bases in a season with 114 total.

The Pioneers conclude their 2022 season with today's doubleheader, in a year that saw several new faces in the lineup to go along with a group of veterans that will be sorely missed. The young team will look ahead to their bright future and will use the experiences from this campaign to come back in 2023 with more steps forward.
