Transy Volleyball wins 9th straight, improves to 4-0 in the HCAC with wins over Bluffton and Defiance

Transy swept the Beavers and Yellow Jackets and defeated Ohio Wesleyan 3-1

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 The No. 16 nationally ranked Transylvania Volleyball team went 3-0 on the weekend, sweeping Bluffton University and Defiance College and defeating Ohio Wesleyan 3-1 to earn their 9th straight win in a row. The wins over Bluffton and Defiance moved Transy to 4-0 in the HCAC as they hit the final stretch of their season.

Transy made quick work of the Beavers, winning their 10th straight match over the Beavers. The Pioneers won the sets 25-13, 25-17, and 25-15.

Transy led or tied in all stat categories. Kayden Holcomb led Transy with 12 kills in the win, and Isabella Myers finished with 11. Grace Ward finished with 33 assists. Jasmine Koonce led all Pioneers with 4 blocks. Myers hit .733 on the game, a season high.

After suffering a first set loss in against Ohio Wesleyan in game two of the Saturday doubleheader , Transy took set two 25-14 and then held the Bishops to just 6 points in set three, the lowest any opponents has been held this season when facing the Pioneers. Transy then took set four 25-14 to move to 4-2 all time vs OWU.

On Sunday afternoon the Pioneers earned their 9th straight win a row with a sweep of Defiance. It's also the 9th straight win for Transy against Defiance dating back to 2016. With the sweep, Transy has won every HCAC match (4) by a sweep. TU outhit the Yellow Jackets .512 to .053 in the win.

Cate Scheper finished the match with 12 kills, a team high. Kayden Holcomb finished with 11 and Isabella Myers finished with 10.

Myers finished the weekend with the highest hitting percentages of her career. She hit .733 vs Bluffton and .667 vs Defiance, both with zero attack errors. She currently had 202 kills on the season.

Grace Ward finished the match with 32 assists. She is currently under 200 assists away from breaking the all time assists record (3945) for Transy Volleyball. Ave Beltsos finished with 9 digs and 3 saves in the win. Cecilia Roberts had the only block of the match.

The Pioneers are playing some of their best volleyball as of late, sweeping six of their last seven opponents.

"We showed up to play this weekend. After losing the first set to OWU we went to work," Head Coach Amy Barmore said. "Our first ball contact was solid and we were able to run the offense. Izzy Myers went off this weekend hitting her highest hitting percentages in her career. Other attackers had a great weekend as well including Kayden, Cate, and Suzanne. We are really starting to play at a high level."

The Pioneers sit tied for first place in the HCAC standings at 4-0. They'll face Hanover College this Wednesday at 7 PM for a chance to go 5-0 before heading to Michigan to face Adrian and Albion in another tri-match.
