LEXINGTON - Transy Women's Soccer improved to 8-3-1 and 3-1 in HCAC play with a 2-0 shutout victory over Anderson University Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers celebrated nine seniors before the game, honoring
Maddi Benjamin,
Rachel Green,
Allison O'Hara,
Erin Heil,
Mackenzie Buckler,
Zoe Riordan,
Audrey Rawls, and
Meron Roach before the match.
Transy added to the festivities with a big win in dominating fashion. Transy outshot the Ravens 20-5, either way 12 shots being on goal as the Pioneers controlled the pace of play all day and caused Anderson to play defensive minded for more than half of the match.
Fifth year senior
Audrey Rawls scored her second goal of the season, putting a low header past the keeper midway through the second half to put Transy up 1-0. The Pioneers capitalized off 1 of their 8 corner kicks as
Lilia Steen assisted her by putting the corner just short of the near post to set up Rawls.
Transy later got the much needed insurance goal with just under 18 minutes to play as
Abbey Rowe took her only shot of the game off a pass by
Tara Pund and put it into the back of the net to put the Pioneers up 2-0.
Carrie Stevens earned her first shutout of the season, stopping 3 shots to secure the victory. The defense stepped up in big moments to keep the shutout intact.
Although a physical game, Transy played the better game and earned their 12th victory in program history over Anderson, rebounding after last season's 2-3 loss in Anderson, Indiana.
The win moves Transy to 3-1 in the HCAC standings, good for third place as they hit the road Wednesday to face the first place Mount St. Joseph Lions in Cincinnati. Transy is looking for their first win over the Lions since the 2020-21 season, and first ever win in Cincinnati.
Meron Roach and
Isabella White had 3 shots on goal in the win.
Maddi Benjamin and
Lilia Steen had 1 each.
The shutout is just what Transy needed after coming up short on the road earlier this week at Hanover.
" I think getting a win after coming off of a tough loss is always a response you want to see from the team," Co-Head Coach Ashley Reinecke said. "We are very proud to come away with a clean sheet, it is something they take particular pride in." The shutout is the 6th this season for Transy.
Reinecke knew it was an important win not just for conference standings, but for the seniors as well.
"The win was made even more special because it was our senior day. This is such a special class. For me in particular because it was my first class here at Transy. We still have so much more to do this season, and we look forward to each and every moment we have together."
