Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer conclude season against Manchester in HCAC semifinals, falling short in PK's

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. The Transylvania Men's Soccer team concluded their season after falling just short oin PK's following regulation and two overtime periods. The Pioneers finished 5-6-7 for the 2023 season.

It was a cold one in North Manchester as the sun set before the start of this contest where both teams were poised for a close match in competition. The Pioneers struck first, opening up the game in the 3rd minute as Markieus Hill found Dylan Barnes. Barnes would finish the season with 6 goals, doubling his output from last year. Hill would earn the start tonight, askew from his normal mid game sub, obviously working well in today's game plan to earn his 2nd assist on the year and create a new career high in assists.

With this goal being the only one scored for the Pioneers in regulation it would be evident the Pioneers would be handling a desperate Manchester team the rest of the way. The Pioneers would let in a goal late in the first half to tie up the game.

The second half was a battle as both teams were fighting the conditions, as the Pioneers had to play with 10 players for the remainder of the game. Transy had 6 shots compared to Manchester's 10 in regulation as all 5 of Nolan Yantz's saves would come in regulation.

With both teams still standing tall at the end of regulation, Transy would find themselves in their second straight overtime match. Manchester scored a goal in the first OT to put the pressure on the Pioneers as the first overtime period would end with the lone Manchester goal. In the second overtime the Pioneers set up for a game deciding corner kick as Nick Haskins sent the ball into center field, only to be struck by Henry Roeteker to tie the match.

This would be Roeteker's 4th goal of the season as well as Haskins first career assist for the First Year. This goal would be the equalizer and send the game into a Penalty Kickoff, just like the Pioneers faced in the first round. After both teams hitting their first 4 each, the Pioneers couldn't connect on the decider, ending the match in a heartbreaking defeat.
