Sydney Wright leads Pioneers to 41st straight win in 46 point victory at Bluffton

BLUFFTON, Ohio. - The No. 2 ranked Transylvania Women's Basketball team continued to dominate conference play, defeating Bluffton University 75-29 this afternoon behind 15 points from Sydney Wright and 44% shooting from the Pioneers. All 17 Pioneers saw action in the win as Transylvania moved to 8-0 on the season and 4-0 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

With the win, Transylvania moves past Texas (1985-1987) and St. Thomas Minnesota (1991-1992) for the 20th longest win streak in NCAA history. The Pioneers are tied with the 1995-1997 Wisconsin-Oshkosh teams' that won 41 straight. 

Transy scored big early and continued it throughout the entire game while holding Bluffton to just 8 points in the first quarter and 7 points in the second, third, and fourth quarter. The Pioneers used a fast 12-0 start to shift all momentum their way the rest of the game.

The 29 points is the second fewest given up this season by the Pioneer defense, who has now held opponents to an average of 41.5 points per game, the second fewest in NCAA DIII.

With the 46 point win, the Pioneers now average a 30.5 scoring margin per game this season, which is second best in NCAA DIII.

Dasia Thornton continued her streak of consecutive games with double figure scoring. She scored 10 points while grabbing 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Emile Teall and Riley Flinn finished with 9 points each in the win. Sadie Wurth led the team with 6 assists.

Transylvania moves to 18-5 all time against Bluffton with the win, and have now won 17 of their last 18 against the Beavers.

The Pioneers will look to improve to 9-0 as they travel to Louisville to face in-state foe Spalding this Wednesday at 2 PM.
