Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Dasia Thornton earns 1000th point, No. 2 Transylvania wins 38th straight game

With the win, Transylvania has gone six years without losing to an HCAC opponent at home

LEXINGTON - No. 2 Transylvania Women's Basketball won their 38th straight game and their first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game of the season with a 65 point victory over Defiance College this afternoon. Sixteen Pioneers scored in the win.

With the win, Transylvania Women's Basketball has now gone six years without losing a home conference game (regular season or tournament). The Pioneers last loss at home came on December 9th, 2017. Since then, Transylvania has gone 61 and 0 at the Clive M. Beck Center against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponents.

Fifth year Dasia Thornton added another accolade to her storied Transylvania career, earning her 1000th career point in the first quarter. Thornton hit a free throw to earn the accolade. She finished the game with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Last game, Thornton grabbed her 750th career rebound.

"I was excited I made both of them. (Free throws)" Thornton said. "I was able to get out and our whole team was able to have decent minutes."

Thornton is already up to 82 points this season, averaging 16.4 over the first five games.

Transylvania's defense swarmed the Yellow Jackets all afternoon. The Pioneers caused 26 Defiance turnovers and scored 30 points from them. Dasia Thornton, Sadie Wurth, Keaton Hall, and Riley Flinn all had steals.

"I thought that was another really good defensive effort." 10th year Pioneer Head Coach Juli Fulks said after the win. "Our goal coming into this game was continuing holding people in terms of shot selection and I thought we did a good job understanding they were going to play a four out, five out and we had some really good coverages, and our bottom zone all the way across the bench did a good job getting wing to corner in the zone. It was a really good effort today."

Samantha Cornelison had a season high 12 points in the win. She was 4 of 6 from the field. Laken Ball and Sydney Wright reached double figures. Sadie Wurth had 6 rebounds and 6 assists.

Transylvania will be on the road this upcoming Wednesday against Franklin College for a 7:30 PM matchup in Franklin, Indiana.
