The Pioneers hit the road for their third consecutive midweek, this time taking on in-state foe
Centre College. In what began as a night that looked like offense would be hard to come by, it
ended five runs being scored across the final three frames and seeing Centre come out on top
6-4.
Griffin Hall got the start on the mound in the rare Pitcher/DH slot. He scattered 3 hits, a walk,
and 2 earned runs over 2+ innings pitched before a hit by pitch in the top of the 3 rd brought Ty
Conner in from the bullpen. Conner rolled a double play, then followed that up with a strikeout
to give the Pioneer offense some time to get rolling.
The Pioneers struck back for 2 of their own in the top of the 4 th . Back-to-back singles by Griffin
Hall and
Calvin Schubert had men on first and third. A double steal brought Hall home, and
after making his way to 3 rd , Schubert eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by
Austin Taylor.
The game remained knotted until the bottom of the 6 th when a 1 out triple by Centre saw them
take the lead. Centre had some security runs tapped on via a three-run home run in the bottom
of the 7 th .
Offensively, the Pios threatened in the 8 th and the 9 th , scratching a run across in each inning via a
second sacrifice fly by
Austin Taylor and a solo homer by
Trent Pahl.
Trent Pahl and
Austin Taylor were the big movers for the Pioneer bats. Pahl was 2-3 with a
homer, a double, and walk.
Austin Taylor was 0-2, but provided two RBI via sac flies.
Additionally,
Trent Youngblood pushed his hitting streak to 9 games.
Coach Getsee had this to say after the game:
"It's never a good feeling getting on the bus after a loss. We felt like we got to see two
important pieces for us show some signs of success, however. Having
Ty Conner and
Trent Pahl
show back up like that will be huge for us going forward".
The Pioneers return to the friendly confines of Wild Health Stadium this weekend to begin
conference play against Franklin College. The three game series is currently slated for a
doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1:00 PM. The final game of the series will be played on
Sunday.
