#16 Transy Softball splits against Centre with run-rule game one

For a weeknight road trip, #16 Transy Softball traveled to Danville for a doubleheader against Centre College with perfect sunny weather.

In game one, Transy got on the scoreboard first with a run in the top of the first. Senior Abby Frazier started with a walk and then took second before scoring on an RBI single up the middle from senior Taylor Senter. They followed up with a three up, three down bottom of the first defensively.

At the top of the third, the Pioneers started rolling, again beginning with Frazier, this time with a double to right. Freshman Katie Mewes reached on an error by first, putting two runners on for senior Annie Shuck. Shuck singled to right to score Frazier and advance Mewes. Senter followed up with a sacrifice fly to left to score Mewes. Junior Stella Wulker knocked an RBI triple into right center scoring Kennedi Stacy, pinch runner for Shuck. By the end of the inning they were up 4-0 on the Colonels.

The Pioneers played add-on in the bottom of the fourth putting five more on the board. They led off with a walk for junior Hadlee Carter and followed by a single from junior Kinsey Smith. An infield single from sophomore Ry'Ann Tharp loaded the bases for Frazier. Frazier launched a 3RBI double to put the Pioneers up 7-0. Sophomore Emilie Teall kept the rally going with a single to right, moving Frazier to third and then stealing second to give two runners in scoring position. Shuck added two more RBI to her tally scoring Frazier and Teall to push the score to 9-0.

Though the Colonels added one in the bottom of the fourth, it wasn't enough to escape the run-rule in the fifth. Junior Carlee Jeter picked up her eleventh win on the year with two strikeouts, just two hits, and one run. For the 9-1 win, the Pioneers collected 10 hits (five extra base hits) and four stolen bases. Frazier led the offense going 2-2 with 3RBI and three runs scored, Shuck also had 3RBI going 2-3, and Senter added her own 2RBI going 2-2.

In game two, freshman Sophie Moshos went six innings with eight strikeouts. Down 3-0 in the seventh, Annie Shuck sent a solo homer to center making it 1-3. The late rally would come up short, leaving the final score 1-3.

The Pioneers will continue HCAC play this weekend with a doubleheader against Defiance at 1:00 and 3:00 pm with an alumni recognition at the games.
