Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Transy Women's Lacrosse downs Centre 20-10, first in program history

After last week's Wednesday matchup was postponed due to storms, tonight the Pioneers faced off against the Colonels at Pat Deacon on a perfect sunny spring evening. For the first time in program history, Transy Women's Lacrosse defeated Centre in a spectacular 20-10 game.

The Pioneers started off strong with a 5-0 lead over the Colonels with goals from junior Linley Dawson (assisted by Sophia Sparks), sophomore Charlotte Green, back to back goals from senior Abbey Peterson, and a fifth from senior Sophia Sparks (assisted by Charlotte Green). They finished the first quarter with a 5-1 lead.

In the second quarter, Peterson added a third goal off a free position for the 6-2 lead. At 6-3, the Pioneers went on a 5-0 run on the Colonels with goals by Green, senior Vianne Koshoffer, sophomore Diana Bruder, another from Peterson, and sophomore Lula Thompson. They took the 11-3 lead into halftime.

Coming out of halftime, Bruder added back to back goals before the 13:00 minute mark to put the Pioneers up 10 for running clock at 13-3. Green added her own back to back goals to push the lead to 15-6. Bruder added her third of the third quarter to push the Pioneers up 10 again for running clock.

To start the fourth quarter, Green added her 31st goal of the season. Peterson also added another one to go 18-8. Thompson added another goal, assisted by Sophia Sparks. Senior Mandi Rider capped off the 20th goal on the night assisted by Bruder. Senior Abi Waldron, who was recognized for becoming the new program leader in saves tonight, added 10 more saves to bring her total to 457.

Coach Bragg said of the game, "??This was an incredible team win! They worked incredibly hard for the full 60 minutes and focused on what they could control. With 8 different goal scorers, 17 draw controls compared to their 8, and 9 caused turnovers with a strong defensive game we've shown that every individual on this team is a threat. They played for each other tonight and I couldn't have asked any more of them. I'm an incredibly proud coach!"

The next HCAC game for the Pioneers will be Saturday April 22nd against Franklin.
