On the road at Franklin in less than ideal spring weather, the #22 Pioneers split the doubleheader with the Grizzlies. They are now 7-1 in the HCAC in second place and 22-9 overall.
In game one, freshman Sophie Moshos took the split on the day, picking up her ninth win of the season as the Pioneers won 5-2. She had 10 strikeouts in thirteen innings pitched.
To start the first inning, senior Abby Frazier was hit by a pitch. She advanced to second on a nice single through the left side by senior Annie Shuck. With two runners on, senior Taylor Senter moved Frazier to third and made it to first on a fielder's choice. Junior Stella Wulker put the ball in play to score Frazier as she reached base on an error. They took the 1-0 lead until the bottom of the second when Franklin tied it up.
The score stayed tied 1-1 until the top of the fifth when Kinsey Smith had a two out double to center field to get in scoring position for Carson Murray to send an RBI single to right making it 2-1.
The Pioneers added on in the top of the sixth. Ry'Ann Tharp led off with a single through the right side, followed by a bunt single from Frazier to put two on. Freshman Katie Mewes laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance both Frazier and Tharp. Tharp scored on an RBI fielder's choice from Shuck to make it 3-1. A single from Senter through the right side scored Frazier and put Shuck at second base. Wulker's single up the middle scored Shuck and made it 5-1 Pioneers.
In game two, the Pioneers were unable to string together hits and make the comeback after a 5-0 deficit, though Annie Shuck sent a solo homerun over the center field fence in the top of the sixth.
