The battle of the number one seeded Transylvania University and number two Mount Saint Joseph began as the clouds gave way. Transylvania came into this game after beating Manchester 11-4 in yesterday's first round game.
The Pioneers connected on eight hits for game, but it was not until bottom of six when
Katie Mewes hits a double with one out that places them in a position to score.
Annie Schuck hits a shallow outfield fly ball making it quickly two outs with no opportunity for Mewes to advance. With two outs,
Taylor Senter sends it long to left center and a diving play from the centerfielder stops the momentum of the Pioneers.
In the top of the ninth, Mount Saint Joseph has a runner on a third base with one out and Sophia Moshos strikes out the next two batters giving the Pioneers an opportunity to win the game. Senter doubles down the left field line with one out.
Stella Wulker steps up and sends one up the middle, scoring Senter and winning the game for the Pioneers.
First year Moshos, the winning pitcher, went the distance for the Pioneers going all nine innings with eight strikeouts and giving up only 2 hits.
Pioneers are back in action tomorrow at 3 PM in HCAC Championship Game at John and Donna Hall Field on the campus of Transylvania.
