LEXINGTON - Transy Field Hockey opened their home schedule with a 1-0 shutout win over NCAC rival Wittenberg University behind
Aubrey Rahiya's second goal of the season and
Libby Bringard's five save performance for her second shutout of the season.
"This was a huge team win that took everything we had to keep them from scoring." Head Coach Natalie Hernandez said. The win was the first over the Tigers in program history. Wittenberg has bested Transy in their previous seven meetings.
Aubrey Rahiya earned her second goal of the season, scoring 7:08 into the game off an assist by
Emily Long. It was just one of two shots on goal all game for the Pioneers.
Catherine Harney almost scored her second goal of the season, but the Tiger goalkeeper made a stick save to keep it a 1-0 game.
Transy's defense kicked it into high gear the rest of the way, with big time saves by Junior goalkeeper
Libby Bringard who earned her third career shutout, and first ever at home.
Wittenberg couldn't capitalize on their opportunities, outshooting Transy 15-3 and had ten penalty corners to Transy's zero.
Coach Hernandez saw the grit and determination for her team, scrapping it out and stopping the Tigers at all chances despite the uneven stat column. "This wasn't our best executing game but this game showed us the heart and determination we have as a whole. I'm proud of us."
The win moves Transy to 2-1 on the season, and gives the Pioneers an opportunity to make it 3-1 this Saturday at 11:30 AM with Sweet Briar College making the trip to Pat Deacon Stadium.
