LOUISVILLE, KY - Transylvania University traveled to Louisville for one of their final non-conference matchups of the season on Wednesday, defeating Spalding University 3-0.
In the opening set, both teams struggled to take the advantage.
Mason Morrow's ace gave Transy an early 6-2 lead, with the next two Pioneer points coming from
Isabella Myers. Leading 8-5, Transylvania would mount their first extended run of the set. A kill from
Addie Atcher, back to back aces from
Maggie Harrison and a block from
Cate Scheper gave Transy a 12-5 lead. Transy would put set one away with an 8-0 run fueled by three kills from Myers and two aces from
Grace Ward. Transy would win the first set 25-11.Â
In the second set Transy's offense would be on full display, establishing a 19-9 lead. Transy would end the set on a 6-0 run, featuring three kills from
Lexie Huck. Transy would win the second set 25-10. In the final set, Spalding mounted an early run to cut an early Transy lead to 10-9 to start a competitive set, but ultimately the Pioneers would go on a run to win the final set 25-18. The final sequence featured three kills from Atcher and a final kill from
Cecilia Roberts.Â
Head Coach Amy Barmore credited several Pioneers for strong offensive performances in the victory.
""Our first ball contact was really good tonight which allowed us to run our full offense," Barmore said. "
Isabella Myers had another spectacular night with eleven kills and one error, hitting a .625. Addie added six and Cecilia added six. We hit .361 as a team."
Barmore also highlighted a strong defensive effort for Transy.
"We served well and
Grace Ward added four aces,
Maggie Harrison added three.
Ava Beltsos has 22 digs! It was a great night overall and we are ready to get back to conference play."
