Pioneers Advance to HCAC Finals, Defeat Earlham 3-1

LEXINGTON, KY - Transylvania University will compete for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) championship on Sunday at the Clive M. Beck Center after defeating Earlham in the semifinals 3-1 on Saturday. 

Addie Atcher led the Pioneers with 12 kills. Isabella Myers followed with 11 kills and Cate Scheper added 10. Grace Ward had another impressive offensive performance, adding 45 assists to the Transylvania offense. Maggie Harrison (14) and Mason Morrow (12) combined for 26 digs to lead the Pioneers, Ava Beltsos added 11 while Grace Ward and Megan Sweeney each added 10. Cecilia Roberts assisted on six blocks, Myers assisted on five. Kayden Holcomb assisted on four blocks and added an ace.

The Pioneers won the opening set 25-19, they opened the set with a 6-0 run and ended it on a 6-0 run. The final sequence of the first set saw Atcher score a kill, Holcomb and Scheper block an attack, Ward block an attack and a kill from Scheper. Transy opened the second set on an 8-1 run but it was a sequence of seven consecutive points that secured the set win. Scheper scored a kill to take a 15-11 lead, followed by two kills from Atcher and a kill from Myers. Holcomb scored the final kill of the set to secure a 25-15 set victory. Transy would utilize a similar run in the fourth set with kills from Myers, Roberts and Atcher, as well as an ace from Sweeney, to take a 21-11 lead. Grace Ward's kill and block with Holcomb would give the Pioneers a 25-13 set victory and a 3-1 HCAC semifinal win. 

Transylvania will take on Manchester at 1 p.m. at the Clive M. Beck Center on Sunday, November 17th for the HCAC Championship.
