CRAWFORDSVILLE, IN - The Pioneers traveled north on Monday night to take on Wabash College, in a much anticipated matchup after the Don Lane Classic Championship. Transylvania began the match slowly, and fell to Wabash 76-53.Â
Dakota Capps and Ian Ressor got Pioneers on the board with a layup and a three point field goal. A Hunter Barr dunk boosted Transylvania, and made the lead 7-4 in the 12th minute. Following the dunk, the 9-0 run by Wabash was halted by back to back threes by Drew Marshall and J.C. Walbert. Ressor hit his second three of the night in the 6th minute to cut the Little Giants lead to just two possessions. Wabash closed out the half on a 12-3 run.
The Pioneers came out of the half showing a boost of momentum, cutting the lead to 12 with field goals by Ressor and Capps. Wabash continued to apply pressure and extend the lead as the second half continued. Field goals by Sam Stone, Logan Tharp, and Ben Godby closed out the final minutes for the Pioneers.Â
Ian Ressor led the Pioneers with a double digit scoring performance with 11 points, while also grabbing five rebounds. Hunter Barr followed with 8 points, and stood strong in the paint with 3 rebounds.Â
Head Coach Brian Lane is proud of how his team competed during the non-conference schedule and is looking forward to the HCAC play.Â
"Our non-conference schedule was designed to challenge us, and it certainly did. We faced strong programs like Chicago, Christopher Newport, and Wabash, who have a combined record of 27-9, and while we came up short, those games tested us in every way. On the other hand, our wins against Ohio Wesleyan and Mary Hardin-Baylor, who have a combined record of 18-7, showed the true potential this team has when we execute. These games will only make us tougher as we head into HCAC play, where every game matters." stated Coach Lane. "We're battle tested and ready to compete.".
The Pioneers are back in HCAC play Saturday at home at the Clive M. Beck Center. Tip off is set for 4 pm, as Transylvania takes on Anderson University.Â
