Pioneers Earn First Conference Victory at Earlham, 75-53

RICHMOND, IN - Transylvania University earned the victory in the first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) match up of the season at Earlham, defeating the Quakers 75-53. 

Riley Flinn led the Pioneers with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Sierra Kemelgor added 15 points and Samantha Cornelison recorded 10 points to round out the three double digit scorers for Transylvania. After holding a three point lead at the half, the Pioneers expanded the lead in the third quarter, outscoring the Quakers 17-14. Transylvania opened the third with a 7-0 run to build the double digit lead. Chloe McKnight's two consecutive scoring possessions gave the Pioneers a 12 point advantage late in the third. As Earlham rallied to cut the deficit to six, Cornelison's three-point field goal and lay-up would push the lead back to double digits. The Pioneers would carry their offense into the fourth quarter, outscoring Earlham 25-13 in the final quarter. Consecutive baskets from McKnight would build the largest lead of the evening for Transylvania at 14 early in the fourth. McClain Murphy's basket in the paint would expand the lead to 20 with 02:39 remaining. Mackenzie Lombardi's three free throws with a little over a minute remaining would give the Pioneers a 25 point lead, securing the 75-53 victory.
