LEXINGTON - Transylvania Baseball hit the 10 win mark in conference play this afternoon and earned their second 3 game series sweep of the season after defeating Bluffton University in game three this afternoon 18-10.
Braden Becker earned his second win of the season after coming in relief in the 3rd inning. After Bluffton's offense scored 4 runs in the 3rd, Becker kept them off the board in the 5th and 6th innings, and
Camryn Warfield would come in relief for the final 3 innings, allowing only 1 run while securing his 2nd save of the season.
In a high scoring affair, the No. 1 offense in the HCAC put up 13 hits and 17 RBI's to lift Transy to the 18-10 win and improve to 23-6 overall and 10-3 in conference play.
Trent Youngblood's 7th home run of the season gave Transy a 2-1 lead after the 1st inning. After jumping out to a 7-1 lead after 2 innings, Bluffton scored 4 runs on 4 hits in the 3rd to make it 7-5 Transy, and after a Pioneer run in the bottom half of the inning, the Beavers tied things up at 8-8 after a 2 RBI double and an RBI single.
Transy again jumped out to another commanding lead with a 7 run bottom of the 4th to make it 15-8, capped off by
Zach Forner's pinch hit grand slam, and would hold on to the lead the rest of the way despite Bluffton having opportunities to score with runners on base.
Bluffton would plate a run in the 7th and 8th innings to make it a 15-10 Pioneer lead, but Transy added 3 more in the bottom of the 8th on a
Trent Pahl sacrifice fly, and a 2 RBI single by
Calvin Schubert for the 18-10 lead.
Warfield finished the 9th with only a runner left on base.
Zach Forner led the team in RBI's with 4.
Trent Youngblood and
Calvin Schubert both had 3.
Henry Mitcham led the Pioneers on the afternoon with 4 hits.
Up next: The Pioneers will hit the road for a 3 game weekend series at Defiance College. First pitch for Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for 12 PM.
