No. 21 Transy Softball sweeps Anderson, moves to 4-0 to start conference play

ANDERSON, Ind. - The no. 21 ranked Transylvania Softball team moved to 4-0 in HCAC play after dominating Anderson in their Sunday doubleheader. The Pioneers defeated the Ravens in 5 innings in both games. 

Carlee Jeter improved to 7-3 on the season after throwing 4 scoreless innings and allowing just 4 hits in game one. Ava Manning and Trinity Bridges finished the 5th inning in the circle. 

8 different Pioneers combined for 10 hits in the game one win. Katie Mewes and Dakota Burke had multiple hits. Carson Murray hit her first home run of the season in the win.

Transylvania made quick work of Anderson in the 10 run victory. The Pioneers had 8 RBI's in game one, and took advantage of 3 Raven defensive errors.

In game two, Sophie Moshos continued the Pioneers' pitching dominance as of late. She moved to 7-2 overall and 3-0 on the week after throwing 3 innings, allowing no hits and just 1 runner on base. Jada Erwin and Natalie Contreras finished the final 2 innings in the circle.

The Pioneer offense strung together 15 hits and 17 runs in game two.Stella Wulker hit her 5th home run of the season to give Transy the 2-0 lead in the first inning, and Carson Murray hit her second home run of the afternoon in the third inning to keep the runs parade going and extending Transy's lead to 11 runs.

11 or Transy's 17 runs came in the second inning. 

  • Emily Sizemore singled to left field to score Murray.
  • Dakota Burke singled to left field to score Regan Rouleau and Emily Sizemore
  • Ella Steczynski doubled to score Burke and Katie Mewes and would later score on a dropped pop up by Anderson's second basemen
  • A throwing error scored Wulker to make it 8-0 Transy
  • Murray's home run made it 11-0
  • Steczynski earned her third RBI of the inning with an RBI groundout

Transylvania scored 4 more runs in the 5th on singles by Rouleau, Madelyn Gilley, and Ry'Ann Tharp. Makena Francis scored on a dropped pop up by the second basemen. 

The starting pitching duo of Carlee Jeter and Sophie Moshos combined for 40 strikeouts in 34.1 innings pitched, and allowed no runs. Both went 3-0 on the week.

To open conference play, Transylvania has outscored their opponents 35-3. They'll look to continue their hot streak and begin conference play 6-0 as Mount St. Joseph heads to Lexington for a Wednesday doubleheader at 5 and 7 PM. The Pioneers defeated the Lions in last season's HCAC Championship game.
