KOKOMO, Ind. - Transy Baseball advanced to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship game on Saturday after beating Rose-Hulman this morning and Hanover College this evening to move through the winners bracket.
Transylvania cruised to a 7-2 victory over Rose-Hulman to begin the day, and would finish the night in exciting fashion. Down 6-1 in the top of the 9th against Hanover, the Pioneers battled back and tied the game on a grand slam by
Henry Mitcham, and would add on 6 runs in the top of the 10th inning and hold the Panthers to 4 runs in the bottom half to get the 12-10 extra innings win.
After taking an early 2-0 lead in game one,
Walter Munday hit his first home run of the season to extend the lead to 3-0. Rose-Hulman cut the deficit to a run in the 5th, but the Pioneers would keep the Fightin' Engineers from scoring the rest of the game. Transy added 2 runs in the 6th and 2 in the 8th to pull away with the 5 run victory.

In game two, Transylvania won an all time classic. After being down 6-1 going into the top of the 9th inning,
Calvin Schubert made it a 4 run game with an RBI single. With bases loaded one out,
Henry Mitcham hit the biggest Pioneer home run of the season, a game tying grand slam for his 7th RBI of the tournament and shift all momentum to Transy. He would add another RBI in the top of the 10th with a single that scored Schubert.
Bryce Dreher's RBI double in the 10th broke the 6-6 tie, and Schuberts 2 RBI double 2 batters later would extend the lead to 9-6. Mitcham's 8th RBI of the tournament brought the lead to 10-6 and after a bases loaded walk by
Camden McAtee,
Chase Gartner made the lead 12-6 with a sacrifice fly to score Mitcham.
Hanover would give the Pioneers a scare in the bottom of the 10th. The 12-6 lead would turn into a 2 run game with the tying run on second base and 2 outs. Down to their final strike,
Camryn Warfield slammed the door shut with a strikeout to end the game and cap off a 2 win day for Transylvania, who is now in the HCAC Championship game for the first time since 2021.
Calvin Schubert led the way with a 4-5, 3 RBI performance in game two and finished the day with 8 hits.
