Transy Softball beats MSJ, wins back-to-back HCAC Tournament Championships for first time in program history

?LEXINGTON - No. 22 Transylvania Softball ran the table in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball tournament to finish 3-0 after taking down Mount St. Joseph in the HCAC Championship game to capture their 6th HCAC tournament championship in program history, and first ever back-to-back championship.

Sophie Moshos earned her 15th win of the season in the circle after coming in relief. She held the Lions to just one hit and kept them scoreless over the final 4 innings. She escaped a bases loaded jam in the 4th inning to give the Pioneer offense a chance to overcome a 2-1 deficit.

For Moshos's performances in the HCAC Tournament (2 wins, 9 strikeouts, 0.00 E.R.A), she was named the HCAC Softball tournament's Most Valuable Player. Dakota Burke and Reagan Rouleau were both named to the All-Tournament team.

The Lions took an early 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning, but the Pioneers responded in the bottom half of the inning as Rouleau singled past the third basemen to score Avery Parsons. After taking a 2-1 lead in the 4th inning on a bases loaded walk, MSJ had an opportunity to tack on to their lead with 1 out, but Moshos struck the next 2 batters out to get out of the jam.

In the 5th inning with 1 out, Katie Mewes reached base safely with a bunt, and would then steal second base. A few pitches later, Dakota Burke singled to right center to score Mewes and tie the game. The momentum shift was on, as Transylvania rallied to score 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th with Jordan Fico's RBI single and Emily Hestand's pinch hit 2 RBI single giving the Pioneers the 5-2 lead.

Moshos sent the Lions down in order to end the game and give the Pioneers their 6th HCAC tournament championship.

Transylvania outhit MSJ 10-5, and finished the tournament outscoring their opponents 18-2.
