RICHMOND, Ind. - No. 18/22 Transylvania Baseball suffered their first conference series loss of the season after falling to Earlham College on Saturday, ending their 12 game winning streak. The Pioneers fall to 30-8 overall and 15-5 in conference play.
Game one: Transy 4, Earlham 10
The Pioneers took an early 4-0 lead, scoring 3 runs in the 1st and 1 in the 3rd.
Austin Taylor singled to left field to score
Trent Pahl, and would later be brought in on
Walter Munday's RBI double that scored a pair of runs. Taylor would earn his second RBI of the game on a sacrifice fly to give the Pioneers a 4-0 lead after 2 1/2 innings.
Trent Youngblood broke 2 records in game one. After stealing second base, he broke the program's single season stolen bases record with his 26th steal of the season. Later in that same inning, he scored on a sacrifice fly to break the single season runs record, scoring for the 62nd time this season.
Earlham responded with 4 runs in the bottom half of the 3rd, and held the Pioneers to no hits from the 4th inning until the end of the game. The Quakers took the lead 7-4 with a bases clearning double in the 5th, and added on 3 more in the 7th for the eventual 10-4 loss.
Transylvania's offense was held to a season low 4 hits in the loss.
Game two: Transy 2, Earlham 8
The Pioneers suffered their first conference series loss of the season after giving up 8 unanswered runs after holding a 2-0 lead.
After reaching first base safely with a walk,
Trent Youngblood would steal second and third, leading to
Austin Taylor's RBI groundout to break the 0-0 tie and give the Pioneers the lead in the 4th inning.
In the top of the 5th,
Trent Pahl blasted a home run over the left field monster to extend the lead to 2-0. It was his 3rd home run of the season and gave him his 46th RBI.
Earlham answered back in the bottom half of the inning with 3 runs, and would add a pair of runs in the bottom of the 7th to jump out to a 5-2 lead. A 3 run home run would extend the lead to 8-2, as the Pioneer bats went cold and Transy would suffer their first back-to-back losses this season.
Transy finishes the regular season 12-4 on the road.
Up next: The Pioneers wrap up the regular season tomorrow against Mount St. Joseph. They'll celebrate Senior Day following the conclusion of game two. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 PM.
