LEXINGTON- The Transylvania Women's Tennis team has entered the postseason, today competing in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament (HCAC). The Pioneers earned a first round bye after ending the regular season HCAC Champions, while several Pioneers earned All-Conference honors. Most notably
Katherine Taylor winning Player of the Year, and
Bill Carey winning Coach of the Year. In today's contest the Pioneers would continue their win streak in a quick 5-0 win after deciding it in 1 singles match back at Top Seed Tennis Club "The Seed".
The Pioneers would sweep today in both categories, first sweeping Doubles to give the Pioneers a healthy lead. In #1 Doubles Katherine Taylor and Maria Hayes would win a quick 8-9 match followed by an equally quick #3 Doubles as Christina Duvall and Maddy Williams won 8-0 as well.
The match of the day was in #2 Doubles as the new pairing of Ally Rassenfoss and Katie Shaffer (dubbed "Crank and Boom") would have a tightly contested 8-7 win. This pairing would get up early in the match then have to fight a Hanover rally edging out a 7-5 game to earn the final point.
Taking care of business in Doubles paved the way for an easy Singles showing as the Pioneers would just need 1 match to seal the day. Maddy Williams would be the first to finish, winning #4 Singles 6-0, 6-2. The Pioneers would have the lead in all remaining matches, but due to the win, the matches were called off and the Pioneers now advance to tomorrow.
The Championship game for Transylvania will be tomorrow, May 5th back at Top Seed Tennis Club at 10AM as the Pioneers wait to play the winner of Rose-Hulman and Anderson.
