#19 Transylvania fell to Centre College in a very competitive night cap to day one of the 2024 Transy Invitational, 3-0.Â
After Centre struck first on the scoreboard, two kills from
Addie Atcher would help the Pioneers take a 4-3 lead. They would follow shortly after with three straight points, including two kills from
Cate Scheper, to take the lead 9-8. Transylvania was able to put together an incredibly timed run of five straight points to tie things up at 21 late. The two teams exchanged points before Centre's late kill secured the first set victory.
The second set also featured an early competitive back and forth, with both teams struggling to build a lead. Transylvania opened with an early 4-1 lead, prior to Centre battling back to build an 11-8 lead after scoring four straight points. The second set would play out similar to the first, with each team fighting to build a lead, but being tied at 20. Transylvania and Centre would exchange points before a kill from Centre's Emily Goddin secured the second set victory, 25-23.Â
Centre would start the third set with an early 5-0 lead before the Pioneers began to battle back.Â
Isabella Myers would have two consecutive kills to start the run, with
Cate Scheper's two kills helping Transylvania tie things up at eleven. Four straight Centre points followed by three straight Pioneer points and two additional kills from
Isabella Myers led to a tie at 18. Centre would regain the lead at 23-20, but the Pioneers would score four straight points to regain the lead. Another kill from Scheper and another from
Kayden Holcomb would give the Pioneers a 25-24 lead. Emily Goddin's kill would secure the Centre victory, 27-25.Â
Transylvania will have two quick opportunities to bounce back on day two of the 2024 Transy Invitational, as they take on Illinois College at 11 a.m., followed by a matchup with Covenant at 4 p.m. at the Clive M. Beck Center at Transylvania University.Â
