LEXINGTON, KY - The Transylvania University Pioneers faced a tough challenge on Sunday afternoon, dropping a contest to the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets by a score of 10-1 at Legends Field in Lexington.
Baldwin Wallace jumped out to an early lead, plating three runs in the top of the first inning and continued to add to their advantage throughout the game. Transylvania's offense struggled to find consistency against Yellow Jacket pitching, finally breaking through for a single run in the bottom of the ninth.
The Pioneers managed seven hits in the matchup, including three doubles. Sophomore designated hitter, Henry Mitcham, led the team with a double, one of three for Transylvania, and drove in the lone Transylvania run. Bryce Dreher and Ethan Dillon also contributed doubles for the Pioneers. Chris Hedinger drove in the other RBI for Transylvania with a single in the ninth. Bryce Dreher, Austin Taylor, Max Finn, and Baxter Tedesco each chipped in with a hit for the Pioneer offense as well.
On the mound, Transylvania used a total of six pitchers in the game. Henry Craig took the start for the Pioneers. Kemper Dotson provided a bright spot in relief, pitching 0.2 innings and holding Baldwin Wallace scoreless without allowing a hit. Brady McFarland also contributed to the relief effort with a scoreless inning. Tristan Cooper, Logan McNair, and Brody Rogers also contributed innings on the mound for the Pioneers.
Transylvania will look to regroup and bounce back in their next contest Tuesday March 4th against Spalding at home.
