LEXINGTON, KY - The Transylvania University Pioneers capped off a dominant weekend series, completing a sweep of the Westminster College (MO) Blue Jays with a decisive 12-2 victory on Sunday at Legends Field. After sweeping Friday's doubleheader, the Pioneers continued their strong play, securing their fourth consecutive win and improving their record to 5-4 on the season.

Transylvania's offense continued its weekend surge, scoring in six of the eight innings played. Westminster took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Pioneers responded immediately in the bottom half. Henry Mitcham singled to drive in Seita Shiratori, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

The score remained tight until the fourth inning when Chris Hedinger launched a solo home run to tie the game at 2-2. The Pioneers then took command in the fifth, erupting for four runs to take control. Seita Shiratori delivered a key two-RBI single in the inning, while Austin Taylor and Henry Mitcham also drove in runs, extending the lead to 6-2.

Transylvania continued to pour it on in the sixth, adding another four runs to solidify their advantage. Ethan Dillon doubled in a run, Seita Shiratori followed with an RBI single, Austin Taylor reached on an error to drive in another, and Henry Mitcham capped the inning with an RBI double, pushing the score to 10-2. The Pioneers added two more runs in the eighth inning to reach the final score of 12-2.

Offensively, the Pioneers were powered by a collective effort. Henry Mitcham led the way with three hits and three RBIs. Seita Shiratori also had a standout performance, driving in three runs and collecting two hits. Austin Taylor contributed with two hits and two RBIs, and Ethan Dillon added a double and an RBI. Chris Hedinger's solo home run provided a spark and tied the game in the fourth.

On the mound, the Pioneers' pitching staff was once again effective. Henry Craig earned the win, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing just two runs, while Brady McFarland, Jacob Moberly, and Brayden Offenbacher each contributed scoreless innings in relief to shut down any Westminster comeback attempt.

Looking Ahead:

The Transylvania Pioneers will look to extend their winning streak as they host Maryville College on Tuesday, March 11th at 4:00 PM at Legends Field. The Pioneers, now 5-4 on the season, will aim to carry their offensive momentum and strong pitching into this midweek matchup against the Scots.
