Game 1:Â
Lexington, KY – The Transylvania Pioneers fell to the Earlham College Quakers by a score of 7-3 in the first game of their Sunday doubleheader at Legends Field. Earlham's offense proved to be the difference, scoring consistently throughout the contest.
The Pioneers got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning when junior designated hitter Houston Manning grounded out to third base, bringing home freshman third baseman Baxter Tedesco. Transylvania added another run in the bottom of the second inning when freshman center fielder Ethan Dillon singled through the left side, scoring sophomore left fielder Chris Hedinger.
Earlham responded in the top of the third, scoring one run. The Quakers then tied the game in the top of the fourth, took the lead in the top of the fifth, and extended their advantage with three runs in the top of the seventh and one run in the top of the ninth.
Transylvania scored their final run in the bottom of the sixth inning when freshman right fielder Max Finn hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring sophomore left fielder Chris Hedinger.
Offensively for Transylvania, junior shortstop Seita Shiratori recorded two hits. Freshman center fielder Ethan Dillon, junior designated hitter Houston Manning, senior second baseman Henry Mitcham, freshman third baseman Baxter Tedesco, and freshman catcher Trevor Watkins each had one hit.
Sophomore Drew Bowles started on the mound for the Pioneers, pitching 6.0 innings and allowing three runs. Sophomore Henry Craig (1-6) took the loss, pitching 0.1 innings and allowing three runs.
Game 2:Â
Lexington, KY – The Transylvania Pioneers responded in the second game of their Sunday doubleheader, defeating the Earlham College Quakers by a score of 8-1. The Pioneers' offense came alive, securing the split at Legends Field.
Earlham took an early lead in the top of the first inning with a home run. The Pioneers responded in the bottom of the third, scoring four runs. Freshman center fielder Ethan Dillon doubled to left center, driving in senior catcher Bryce Dreher. Freshman third baseman Baxter Tedesco singled up the middle, scoring freshman center fielder Ethan Dillon. Junior designated hitter Houston Manning then singled to left center, driving in freshman third baseman Baxter Tedesco, and senior second baseman Henry Mitcham singled to center field, scoring junior designated hitter Houston Manning.
Transylvania added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Sophomore left fielder Chris Hedinger singled through the right side, driving in senior first baseman Austin Taylor. Senior catcher Bryce Dreher reached first on a fielding error, scoring sophomore left fielder Chris Hedinger. Freshman center fielder Ethan Dillon hit a sacrifice fly, scoring senior first baseman Austin Taylor, and freshman third baseman Baxter Tedesco doubled to left center, driving in senior catcher Bryce Dreher.
Offensively for Transylvania, senior first baseman Austin Taylor, sophomore left fielder Chris Hedinger, and freshman center fielder Ethan Dillon each recorded two hits. Freshman third baseman Baxter Tedesco and senior catcher Bryce Dreher each had a double and an RBI. Junior designated hitter Houston Manning and senior second baseman Henry Mitcham each had an RBI single.
Freshman Giancarlo Gonzalez (2-1) earned the win for the Pioneers, pitching 6.0 innings and allowing one run. Fifth-year Gabe Dillard pitched a scoreless seventh inning, sophomore Camryn Warfield pitched a scoreless eighth inning, and fifth-year senior Matt Armstrong pitched a scoreless ninth inning.
