Game 1: Batavia, OH – The Transylvania Pioneers fell to the Mt. St. Joseph Lions by a score of 8-2 in the first game of their Saturday doubleheader. Mt. St. Joseph's offense proved to be the difference, scoring early and adding late insurance runs.

Mt. St. Joseph struck first with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, aided by a Pioneer error. The Pioneers got on the board in the top of the fourth inning when senior second baseman Henry Mitcham drew a bases-loaded walk, bringing home freshman center fielder Ethan Dillon. Transylvania added another run in the top of the fifth inning when Ethan Dillon singled up the middle, scoring freshman catcher Trent Watkins to make it a 3-2 game.

Mt. St. Joseph broke the game open with five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Offensively for Transylvania, freshman center fielder Ethan Dillon recorded two hits and an RBI. Senior second baseman Henry Mitcham drove in the other run. Sophomore left fielder Chris Hedinger and freshman third baseman Baxter Tedesco each added one hit. Freshman Max Finn started in right field and was pinch-run for by junior Camden McAtee later in the game.

Sophomore starter Drew Bowles pitched 5.0 innings for the Pioneers, allowing three runs (two earned). Drew Bowles (4-2) took the loss. Fifth-year Griffin Dillard pitched the final 3.0 innings, allowing five earned runs.

Game 2: Batavia, Ohio – The Transylvania Pioneers responded in the second game of their Saturday doubleheader, defeating Mt. St. Joseph by a score of 1-0. The Pioneers' pitching and an early run secured the split.

Transylvania scored the game's only run in the top of the first inning. Freshman center fielder Ethan Dillon singled, advanced to third on a single by junior shortstop Seita Shiratori and a sacrifice bunt by freshman third baseman Baxter Tedesco, and then scored on a sacrifice fly by senior second baseman Henry Mitcham.

That run was enough for freshman pitcher Giancarlo Gonzalez, who delivered a masterful complete game shutout.

Offensively for Transylvania, junior shortstop Seita Shiratori recorded three hits. Freshman center fielder Ethan Dillon and senior catcher Bryce Dreher each had two hits. Senior second baseman Henry Mitcham recorded a double and the game-winning RBI. Junior designated hitter Houston Manning added a triple.

Freshman Giancarlo Gonzalez (4-0) earned the win for the Pioneers, pitching a complete 9.0 innings, allowing zero runs on just three hits and one walk, while striking out two.
