LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Despite a resilient offensive effort, the Transylvania baseball team fell to Spalding by a 12-7 final on Wednesday evening at Derby City Field.
The Pioneers (19-17) recorded 12 hits and tallied seven runs, including a three-run home run by Chris Hedinger in the seventh inning that pulled Transylvania within one. Austin Taylor led the way at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base, while Max Finn drove in two with a clutch single in the sixth.
Transylvania overcame an early 6-1 deficit to make it a one-run game heading into the bottom of the eighth, but Spalding capitalized on a series of walks, wild pitches, and errors to plate four insurance runs and secure the win.
On the mound, the Pioneers saw performances from Warfield, Dotson, Offenbacher, Moberly, McNair, Wilson, Craig, McFarland and Bowers. The Transylvania bullpen held steady through the middle innings before Spalding's late surge.
With the regular season winding down, Transylvania will look to regroup with a weekend series at HCAC opponent Rose-Hulman for their regular season finale. The Pioneers will take on the Fighting Engineers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday before a double header on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
