Transylvania Wins 2025 HCAC Women's Tennis Championship

PENDLETON, Ind. – Transylvania University won the 2025 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Women's Tennis Championship on Sunday in convincing fashion, defeating the Earlham Quakers, 4-0.

In advancing to the HCAC title, the Pioneers started the afternoon with three doubles victories to secure the first team point of the afternoon.  The Pioneer doubles teams of Katherine Taylor and Maria Hayes (#1 doubles), Ellie Held and Maddy Williams on the second court, and third doubles Paulina Razo-Zapata and Lilly Hartman all secured decisive victories.

Katherine Taylor showed why she was recently selected as the HCAC Player of the Year, as she defeated outstanding HCAC newcomer Vanessa Akuaku on the top singles court and secured the second team point in the match. 

Maddy Williams won her match on court six for the penultimate team point by defeating Earlham's Madison Ruwersma in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.

Ellie Held clinched the match and championship for the Pioneers with her 6-1, 6-2 victory on court five.
 
For her efforts, Katherine Taylor (Burlington, KY) was named the 2025 HCAC Women's Tennis Championship Most Outstanding Player.
 
Transylvania earns the conference's automatic qualification bid to the 2025 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship, with the opening rounds scheduled for May 21-26, 2024 at Washington University in St. Louis, Transylvania will take on Sewanee in the opener.
